Sweet Heat

I have always wanted to see an old-fashioned sugar shack in action so I was thrilled to be invited to a nighttime boiling session at one of the few remaining wood-fired commercial operations in the county (this one is near Tioga). When I left at 10 p.m. the shack inside was still in full roar. Outside, I turned around and snapped this amazing scene of fire and sparks spewing out of the shack.
