Plowing into Spring

With so many new advancements in technology, sometimes it’s nice to take a step back and simply look at how it all began. Wellsboro’s 10th annual Antique Tractor Show – which begins at 9 am on Saturday, April 10th – will help you do just that.
“It kind of takes you back in time to the way things used to be done,” says Craig Owlett, who ran the show for seven years before handing things off to the local tractor club. Owlett, who still hosts the event at his farmers market on Route 287, hopes that the show will inspire new generations to learn about how things were done “when their grandparents were out plowing the fields.”
“Some kids have never even seen how a plant is grown,” says Owlett. “This show allows them to see actual working antique tractors and even ride one if they’d like.”
The event, which has grown from showcasing six or seven tractors to fifty tractors as of last year – including a few horse-drawn plows – invites anyone to come “plow a little, plow a lot, or just park your tractor and talk,” says Owlett, who has 40 acres of available land to plow. A pig roast, served up by the local Boy Scout troop, will also take place during the festivities. “It’s all about having a good time,” says Owlett. “Having a good time while you’re taking a step back in time.”
