Mountain Chatter
In Love With Leeks
By TERESA BANIK CAPUZZO
When your name is Fezz and you host a party, what do you call it? A fezz-tival, of course. And when its springtime in the hills, Ron “Fezz” Linden’s thoughts turn to leeks. Fezz, owner of the eponymous diner on the outskirts of Coudersport at the intersection of Route 6 and Ice Mine Road, will hold the third annual Leek Fezz-tival on April 26. All things leek will be in aromatic abundance. The diner will serve leek omelets until they run out. Leek gourmets are invited to bring a leek dish for late-morning judging by the Red Hatters. Local artist Tooter Randall is creating a Minnie-and-Mickey-standing-in-front-of-the-diner cartoon—complete with leeks, naturally—for two separate age category coloring contests, to be judged by the same Red Hatters, so tell the kids to bring their best game.
A disappointment in the last three years is that no one has stepped up for the last division of the dips, dishes, and desserts challenge. Fezz figures if garlic fests can produce desserts, why not the leek fezz-tival? The time is ripe to beg that leek ice-cream recipe from grandma’s and go for fragrant glory.
Music has not been determined at press time, but there will be music from 4 to 8 p.m. It could be an Elvis impersonator or a DJ. Or maybe a band or a sock hop. Just come expecting a good time, or call Fezz for the details in case it would be appropriate to dig out that poodle skirt. There will be craft and vendor booths on the grounds, and if you want to set one up it’s not too late to call (814) 274-9690 and get in on the fezz-tivities.
