The Cameron County Canoe and Kayak Classic is set for its thirty-fourth running and 2008’s theme is “Paddling Waters of the Pennsylvania Wilds.” Event promoter Randy Bailey said he was hopeful for good water conditions and is planning for a large turnout of participants and spectators.
Last year, though temperatures hovered near freezing on race day and there were heavy snow showers and low water, nearly 100 paddlers showed up and people lined Route 120 and its bridges to cheer them on through the eleven-mile stretch of the Driftwood Branch of the Sinnemahoning Creek from the Emporium Country Club to the bridge in Driftwood. Depending on water conditions, the course can be fun and challenging, though navigable by those of all levels of expertise, Bailey said.
